Went up north with a couple of friends and their families.

Went to the beach everyday, saw some beautiful sunsets

(when it wasn't cloudy and cold... typical NZ summer),

played tennis, played pictionary & scrabble, made 834 paper cranes (to send to Hiroshima),

watched Melancholia and TinTin, ate copious amounts of chocolate,

got some extreme tan lines, made a fortified sand castle,

walked on the beach until it was nearly pitch black, went fishing,

drew a little, read Mockingjay and Girl who kicked the Hornet's Nest,

played dance central...

I will post photos of the holiday in it's entirety soon.

What's new with me?

Well, I feel like there's not much to tell,

and that there's also too much to tell,

But I should probably mention that my "do or die" moment is next Wednesday :S

I'm so terrified. But also really excited!

If it goes well, then I'll let you know about it in a future post.

If not (which is very likely haha) the I won't be mentioning it ever again

(because I'll be too busy being curled up in a ball and slowly dying anyway).

This dress was secondhand from trademe.

I had to shorten it (as usual... me so damn short)

and those shoes are my teal ones from Urban in Wellington.

I wear those shoes everyday - I can't live without them!

A much needed reunion

Had a mini reunion with some high school friends.

Hadn't seen them in months!

I really didn't realise how much I missed them until I saw their faces.

Catching up with these girls really put me in a good mood :)

If that were possible!

I was still on cloud nine from the lab with my favourite tutor the day before...
I was shamelessly flirting but I don't regret it at all because it's our destiny to be together.
No, I'm not being irrational/obsessive/creepy!
The Gods will do what they have to do to...
you know, to make us be together.
And then we'll live in the French countryside where I'm a paediatric Speech Therapist for French children
and he's a cognitive researcher working on blind French patients.
(My sister said that finding blind patients in the French countryside will be difficult seeing as
blind patients are unlikely to pay for prime real estate if they can't see the countryside...
she has a point.)
And then we'll have beautiful children.
You see, I've thought this out.
I can't even tell whether I'm joking or not anymore which is worrying.

Admittedly, I am a creep thus I instantly noticed when he turned up to the lab with a haircut.
Without thinking, I said,
"Oh, you got a haircut."
He looked ~~creeped out~~ surprised and said apprehensively,
"Yes..."
At this point, I suddenly realised that I had to explain myself because
any normal person would not have noticed his haircut!
I have to keep my 'creepiness' to myself!
I had to quickly blurt out,
"My other tutor got a haircut as well. Yup, that's why I noticed!
All the tutors must get haircuts at the same time."
He joked with, "Yeah. At the weekly tutor's meeting."
I said, "And someone brings the scissors."
We both burst out laughing and he nearly fell backwards.
I instantly thought "SUCCESS! He thinks I'm funny!
Now I have to make him think I'm smart, beautiful and friendly and then he'll fall in love with me!"
(But SHHHH I lied about my other tutor's haircut...
it was a white lie - that other tutor got a haircut 2 weeks ago :P )

Anyway, this post already contains enough embarrassing shit.
I need to sort myself out.

Hello!

Long time no talk!

How long has it been since the last post - what, a month and a bit!

I actually took these photos 2 weeks ago, but I kept forgetting to edit and post them.

What's new with me?

Hmm... I shall list what has happened in the past month since Uni has started.

1) I found out that both the Jesus' in my Linguistics classes are taken.

Not surprised!

I'm also not disappointed, I didn't like them anyway.

But it's just amusing saying,

"Jesus has a girlfriend."

By the way, their names aren't actually 'Jesus'.

Their facial hair just resembles Jesus' facial hair.

And they're very good-looking.

When the wind is whisping away in their direction,

they look like models at a photoshoot with a big fan.

2) Am having an internal struggle.

To drop Linguistics or not?

I find the theories so difficult to grasp and I have no time to keep up with the readings

because I'm preoccupied with my other papers.

It's my own fault really... I chose to do this stage 3 paper

when it would've been wiser to do a stage 2 paper.

I don't know what to do.

3) ... can't think of anything else worth noting except that

I'm ridiculously infatuated with yet another tutor.

I can almost sense the eye-rolling.

I know, I know -

here we go again.

I'll try to take some photos of my 'dress of the moment'.

It's a red one I got off trademe and shortened (like all things I get off trademe... haha).

Uni stuff

(you were hoping I'd say something juicy like,

all the ones I go googly-eyed over are either married or moving away to do research...
and are all wayyy too old for me).

Bottom line is, I'm a boring person who does boring things...

oh how I miss my friends in Smelly Welly (heehee).

Not that I don't like my friends here in Auckland!

Actually, I've met some crazy characters here.

Mostly from my Linguistics paper though.
There are some pretty amusing ones from my other papers as well.
but I've noticed that people doing science tend to be quite similar.
Not that they're all robots or anything like that, it's just,
people doing science (or, the ones who do my papers, at least) tend to have the same goals, the same ideas, the same life experience (which is virtually none, eg. myself).
The arts papers are just melting pots with lots of different people!

Thinking about it, I'm so thankful and glad that I spontaneously took Linguistics 'for fun'
(... "nerd" is what about 3 people have called me in the past week.
This hurts, ya know! Since when was the noun "nerd" something other than an insult?!).

Back to what I was saying about arts papers -
well, I've never met a weirder, more eclectic bunch.

Just talking to them makes me so much "more aware of my incompetence"
(^ quoting from a girl from the bunch!).
Really.
Just hearing their life stories and learning about all this life experience they have makes me feel so naive and well... young (I'm the youngest out of the bunch by a few years, actually).

There was an end of semester drinks at the Uni bar for Linguistics.
Yes, you're going "ho ho ho how lame!" because the thought of a bunch of Linguistics students
having drinks together must sound like a total bore, right?
So far from the truth!
Hardly any conversation about Linguistics occurred here, promise.
(Not that I would have minded if we did discuss Linguistics but, I digress)
My cool tutor came, talked about how he grew up in Windy Welly (!)
went to Rongotai college (Hahaha! when I asked him if he knew that someone set the gym on fire he laughed) and how"the love of my life when I was 17 went to WGC" (!).
When I said, "Oh, your wife went to WGC?"
He giggled ("giggle"? Can a grown man giggle?) and said, "No no no! She went to Porirua College haha!"
His endless quotes from Family Guy and the The Simpsons are hilarious as well.
Definitely not your typical Linguistics academic!
Oh, and then the photographer (no, a professional photographer, not your friend who takes tacky photos and posts them on facebook! Haha!) drank too much and said,
"Hey, those girls over by the pool table are pretty cute...
wanna talk to them with me? Be a wingwoman?"
...
... uhhh, how about a "no"?

I should probably mention that I was motivated to post something new because
my little sunshine who had an exam this morning, describing it as a"train wreck" (...join the club),
told me a few weeks ago that this blog was looking a little empty...
me so sorry!

Oh, I also had an exam this morning (hence the comment about 'joining the club').
It went... all right.
I studied quite early which ended up being my downfall
because I couldn't remember anything that I had studied earlier on.
It seems like the only way to succeed is to cram... but cramming does not suit me.
I mean, I was hoping for a good mark for this one but I'll be all right with an 'aiiight' mark.
Studying all the clinical psych stuff really made me depressed...
definitely rules out being a clinical psychologist.
(not that this career path was ever an option because I'm really not a fountain of empathy.
I can't listen to problems all day long... as a friend said today,
"I'd just end up saying GET OVER IT")

On either side of me sat a couple of geniuses who did not bring erasers to the exam.
Um, hello, there's an mcq section so obviously one would need to bring erasers!
They had the brains to bring a pencil, but not enough brains to bring an eraser.
Common sense!
If you're going to need a pencil, you're going to need an eraser as well!
And you know who was interrupted THREE TIMES during the exam (by the supervisor, no talking between students allowed) so that those two little shits could borrow her eraser?
ME.
Why am I punished, my concentration broken,
because two stupid shits didn't bring their own erasers?
Ugh, just talking about it makes my forehead veins pop a little.
And THEN Mr Little Shit on my right was constantly turning on his seat to crack his back.
Who cracks their back during an exam? And pointedly leans back and stretches?
Someone trying to sneak a peak at their neighbour's exam script, that's who.
I could ramble for eons but I'll stop myself now.

I went home to Ohakune and it snowed(..and it was April!) but it was beautiful.

Burnt, Toasty Royal Oranges

So who watched the Royal Wedding?

And who thought Kate Middleton was the luckiest 'commoner' on the planet?!

And who was supremely jealous?!

If anyone asked me those questions,

I'd be forced to answer "MEEE" to all three.

I watched the wedding last night with my aunt and a few other Filipina women,

all of whom kept commenting on how skinny Kate Middleton was,

or how plain her dress was.

I kind of agree with the former (apparently she lost some weight for her wedding and consequently had to have her wedding band re-sized, as well as her engagement ring, which was Princess Diana's)...

her sternum seemed a little gaunt...

HOWEVER, I have complete empathy for her because she was preparing to marry a PRINCE!

Imagine the stress!

And most would-be brides try to lose a few before their wedding because of the paranoia.

At first I agreed with my aunts about the simplicity of the dress but as the night wore on,

and more close-ups of the dress graced the tv, I got to see all the details of the dress

and concluded that she looked beautiful.

Admittedly her dress was on the 'simple' side,

but how can you expect a wedding dress like Diana's from '81 in 2011?

Princess Diana's dress was suitable at the time and so Cinderella-like.

Had Kate worn something so puffy and fluffy, people would've laughed!

The more I look at photos of Kate's wedding dress, the more I love it.

But seriously, Kate is so beautiful, inside and out!

Every time she's in public with William, she's always got this smile on her face

and she's never done anything to taint her reputation in the 9 years she's

been William's on-again/off-again girlfriend.

I want to be BFFs with her so badly...

Yes, I have a girl-crush on her.

But... wow.

From a 'commoner' to Princess William of Wales, Duchess of Cambridge.

I had butterflies (and intense jealousy coursing through my veins) the whole time I was watching the wedding.

I want to marry a prince :(

And might I add that Prince Harry looked rather dashing ;)

there must be millions of English girls signing up for the navy

I meant to post them but I kept ~~getting lazy~~ forgetting.

I really like the black and red one,

Anyway, on to the explanations about...

1) "The person with the weird laugh"

was actually someone from last year who was in one of my tutorials...

and after I met him, I thought to myself,

"I could really see myself liking him... hmmm" (it sounds so calculated, doesn't it? Hahaha!)

but the thing is, instead of saying something cool and suave at the end of the tutorial like,

"Hey, where you going now? I could walk with you... ?"

(As you can see, I actually don't know how to be cool and sauve)

I just stood up and walked out of the room without even a quick "bye".

I didn't know what to do!

And during our next tutorial he sat with some other girl haha

Oh well, you snooze, you lose.

One year later, about a couple of weeks ago I was walking to a lecture

and suddenly realised that I was walking behind this person.

I... slowed down my pace and just admired from afar :D (what a coward...)

And when I looked closer I thought, "Dayam, he hasn't changed a bit!"

But when I got to a free table outside my lecture hall (lecture hadn't started yet) to do some revision,

I heard this ridiculous and loud laughter.

I looked up and it was him hanging out with these girls, laughing like a really drunk hyena.

I felt so embarrassed for him... to be blessed with such an ugly, nerdy laugh.

Needless to say I don't think I could like him anymore.

His laugh is too weird.

2) "The severed head"

was my Linguistics tutor informing me about the labs for the MSLT.

I wasted about 40mins of our 1hr tutorial asking my tutor all about Speech-Language Pathology

(one girl kept looking at the clock in an irritated fashion... sorryyyyyy :P)

because

it turns out that he's a tutor for the Masters Linguistics courses for the MSLT!

Anyway, he was telling us how one day one of his MSLT students walked into his lecture

with a shocked expression on her pale face.

She explained,

"In our Anatomy lab the tutor just yanked out a severed head from a bag without even warning us..."

I freaked out... just A LITTLE BIT.

You see, in deciding that I wanted to pursue an MSLT,

I completely overlooked that fact that we'd be expected to do any type of Anatomy (really stupid of me, I know).

Right after that story... I actually considered choosing a different career path for a few minutes because there's no way that I'll be able to stomach cutting open a dead persons head 0_0

But I quickly realised that we must take the good with the bad.

I will just have to build a bridge and get over it!

This is where hobos sleep at night in Albert Park. I promise it doesn't look like this cool in real life.

3) "The deadly acorns"

is nothing too exciting.

There are dozens of hundred-year-old (?) acorn trees at Albert Park.

I walk through Albert Park every morning on my way to Uni.

And because it's autumn,

these really hard acorns keep falling off the damn trees and hitting me on the head >:(

DIY Tinkerbell Dress

Just had the first day of Uni!

Wow, what a day of useless lectures... !

There were few things that saved me from unceremoniously falling asleep today.
Let me list them!
(Because I love lists :D )

1) Craccum

This is the UoA student magazine.

I was actually giggling during my Psych lecture (really bad, I know...)

This week's issue was probably the best I've ever read (and I am a devoted collector of Craccum).

The most memorable part in this issue would have to be the guest column by David Farrier.

He's a journalist off TV3 News.
Apparently he was a student at UoA...
and tried (and failed) to get into Medicine.
Well, this goes to show you that when one door closes another one opens because this guy is a successful journalist now (and pretty fine, might I add. I have a thing for stubble + glasses *.).

The part that had me stifling my laughter?
His reference to the editors of Craccum:

"I have trust in the editors, too. I've watched Rhys' standup - he's a talented chap.

Funny. Good-looking...

The other chap - well, I'm sure he'll do fine.

He's gotten this far as a ginge, he must be OK."

I know I shouldn't be laughing but COME ON,

that was witty at it's best!

Fi and Yass gave me this dress for my birthday last year.

I shortened it and that's what the end-product is.

However, it is so dangerously short that I can't raise my arms without flashing some unfortunate fellow.

I need to lengthen the lining...

2) A class rep said something that made me crack up

I was on the verge of pulling out Craccum when this class rep hopeful said,

"Vote for me because...

I'm small but I can do big things."

Seeing as 90% Uni students are perverted (which I am quickly learning),

there was a roar of laughter.

It was just too funny because she just stood there, awkwardly smiling,

not understanding the unintentional innuendo.

I hadn't voted for anyone in any of my other papers

(honestly, I don't care)

but her little speech was enough to make me lift my arm and vote.

3) Pervy men watching girls zumba

Was walking past the school gym and saw 4 men shamelessly peering through the window

and watching 100 or so girls zumba.

What happened to modern-day subtlety?!

Anyway, that's was my first day of Uni in 2011

If you've seen me in the past month,

then you probably already know that I've tried venturing into the world of drawing

after abstaining for more than 2 years.

Why didn't I draw for so long?

Let's blame it on having a lazy ass.

I forgott that it's relaxing and one of the most productive hobbies I've ever had.

Why is it productive?

Because at the end of it, you always have an end-product

that you can critique and ~~admire~~ cringe at.

Looking back at past illustrations is always fun and interesting...

I like asking myself questions such as,

"Why has my drawing style changed?" ;

"Did I improve?" ;

"Why is does that look shit?"

and so on and so forth.

I've also found that I'm more motivated to make drawings look better

if I'm drawing someone who I know

because I feel like I have to do them justice...

Anyhoo,

Sometimes after drawing something I'll feel really pleased with myself,

and then when I look back at it after an hour or so,

or in this case, after a day,

I suddenly notice all the mistakes and it drives me INSANE.

Ah well,

there's only room for improvement!

An effort to be Prim and Proper

I took a few photos a week or so ago,

but have been too lazy to post them.

Thus, these photos have been collecting dust on my comp for the past few days.

Ahh the end of the summer holidays is drawing near

and the time when I'll have to say goodbye is just beyond the horizon...

How poetic of me.

Lame.

Despite still pursuing a BSc, I'm changing majors

(needed to do this because I want to do an MSLT)

which means I'll have to make friends with a bunch of completely new people.

It's not that I don't like making friends

(I love making friends and meeting new people!

That was one of the reasons why I chose my University)

it's just that I felt so "at home" and comfortable with the friends I'd made last year.

Having to go through the same thing again is just...

so tiresome.

Ah well,

I'm bound to meet some interesting (and most likely weird) people doing Psychology,

right?

I'm just crossing my fingers that the people doing Psych won't be

insanely competitive study nerds

(surrounded by these guys last year)...

Chiedza tells me that the people doing Psych are generally better-looking as well.

Something to look forward to already!

and yes, I will study hard and not spend my time chasing after les garcons

(come on, we're talking about Trixie here!

Obviously, school is 100x is more important than boys

and having fun...

I sound like such a mother.)

Call me a Pacifist, or naive,

but don't you hate it when your friends have profound problems or disagreements

but there's really nothing that you can do

because at the end of the day,

no matter how much you care about their wellbeing,

it's really none of your business?

[Trixie]Nails : Trying something new

These photos were taken more than a month ago,
but I always planned on painting my nails a 3rd pattern because...
well, a set of three always seems better than a set of two, right?
But I completely forgot.
Thus my nails have been nekked for the past month.

Ewww, old wrinkly hands.

I've convinced myself that those wrinkles mean that my hands carry the wisdom of a elderly lady.

Hmmm, deep, n'est-ce pas?

I did the first one for a Christmas party

(quite a gothic/angry design for a Christmas party!

But my dress was so happy and chirpy that I felt had to do something to my nails to tone down my look).

Sorry for not posting anything in such a long time...

been lazy. Hah.

Just tellin' it like it is.

The Wellington French Film Festival started on Feb 9th.

I watched Tout Ce Qui Brille/All That Glitters with some girlfriends.

Despite having fairly good reviews, I was still fearful that it would be too girly or cliché

(look at the promo poster!).

But I was proven wrong!

Had a bunch of laugh-out-loud moments (see how I didn't write "lol")

and I even cried a little.

I'd give it a ... 6, maybe 7/10.

To give you an idea of what my standards are like,

from the top of my head I've never given a film 9 or 10/10...

I'd give Inception 8/10, but the scale was only tipped to "8"

because of the scene where the geeky guy (can't remember the his name) says, "quick, kiss me".

I don't want to reveal away the comedy of that moment, so that's all I'm sayin'.

Ahahaha

P.S. I recommend Tangled as well.

Haven't seen a Disney film like it since (ooh dare I say it?) the 90's.

My sister and I shed quite a few tears in this one...

god, being a cry-baby must be in the genetics, right?!

It's been exactly a week since my semester started.

I have to admit, Bachelor of Radiation Therapy is a small class.

small, as in 30 people exactly ;)

So, I moved into a different house on Monday, and it is great!

Antique and spacious, Just my style.

Wellington is so amazing. Full of life and character.

I feel inspired everyday by it's chilled residents and their quirky sense of style.

I LOVE glitters, shiny, new things.

Okay... maybe I'm not talking about a t-shirt that says "HOT BITCH" in plastic glitters.

but generally speaking, if it shines, I'm about 80% in.

I painted a picture few weeks ago.

The theme was 'Modern day Sleeping Beauty'

I was poor and had to use a small canvas and was also lazy, so used water colour ;)

But last night, I found some stash of GLITTERS!!!!!!

so, on it goes.

Oh man, I wish I had a sparkly dress like that(hahahahahahaha ;D )

Oh by the way, the end of the sleeves arent supposed to be gold,

but it was a lighter blue glitter, except when I was doing the giant gold part,

it got on the sleeves too! :(

My princess is ready for her prince!

And then-

I was bored again.

so I looked into my box full of junks my grandma gave me and found this!!

Ah, a heavenly gold broach with the broken clippy part.

so, I went to Bernina's and got some ribbons and ring thingies.

Just adding on the Trixie's movie reviews, I'll add The King's Speech.

I had very low expectations for this film despite the amazing cast.

um let's see... I figured there isn't much to portray about the stuttering king.

But as I started watching the first few minutes of Colin Firth's scene,

I realised that he really did deserve the Golden Globe for this role.

I have to say there isn't much about the plot, but the pace is exciting throughout.

It kept me engaged. There were no depressingly gloomy scenes, which I liked,

but humour seems to be everywhere, even when the situation isn't so great for the casts.

I was amongst the older viewers at Gizzy cinema with a friend,

and it's very amusing listening to grandmas laughing at good old jokes :)

When I got out of the cinema, I felt empowered.

I felt fortunate and lucky that I didn't have speech problems,

but I think what they really wanted to say was the book isn't always about the cover,

both the characters and the film.

Go and watch it, it's worth the money :D

ANYHOW....

It's such a humid day.

I went shopping with a friend for her date outfit tonight.

and I found her a perfect dress and a cardigan.

I ended up getting some cheap stuff too.

two tees, and started taking photos when I got back home.

[Trixie] Movie reviews of summer '10

I've been feeling un-inspired lately,

which is why this blog has been so quiet you could probably hear you ears ringing.

I've seen 3 films these holidays so far!

1) The Social Network

Hmmm I found this film number 1 on a "Best films of 2010" list.

I disagree, it wasn't the best film of 2010.

It was definitely worth my money and funny, but Jesse Eisenberg was annoying.

There were so many times I was to just jump right into that screen and rip his head off.

And the twins were amusing haha

Though you should bear in mind that half of the stuff in that movie was exaggerated

or just added for dramatic effect.

Don't take it too seriously

2) Love and Other Drugs

Yes, the two main protagonists are very good-looking but even looks don't save this film.

I haven't felt so deceived by a movie trailer since Despicable Me.

I'm such a cry-baby that I cry in nearly every movie I watch.

But this one, I didn't feel anything.

It was funny every now and then, but holy crap - !

There were some really intense bedroom scenes.

Kind of felt like 1/3 of the movie was just beautiful people doin' it.

3) Burlesque

This movie was so much fun! Loved it!

Christina Aguilera's acting was not bad - not deserving of an Oscar, but not too bad.

She still needs some practice though, that much is evident.

But her voice was amazing! And the dance numbers were really cool!

This movie made Katy and I really, really want to buy some sequined leotards and dance some burlesque.

Ohhh yeahhh hehehehe

Main guy is pretty good eye-candy too ;)

Fi watched The King's Speech a couple days ago.
I plan to watch this film asap! It's got some amusing stuff about Speech Therapy in it too :D
